Clément Stauffenegger
The Franco-Swiss cellist Clément Stauffenegger began his musical journey in his hometown of Avignon. He then went on to do a Perfectionnement at the Conservatoire de Lyon with Augustin Lefebvre, before getting accepted to the Haute École de Musique de Genève-Neuchâtel. After studying with Denis Severin, he continued his studies with David Pia.
He has played with the Orchestre des Jeunes de la Méditerranée and the Schweizer Jungend SinfonieOrchester, and has been invited as a supplementary musician by the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne and the Orchestre National Avignon Provence. These experiences have enabled him to play under conductors such as Gabor Takacs-Nagy, Pablo Heras-Casado, Léo Warinsky and Carlo Rizzi, and have led him to perform at various festivals, including those in Aix-en-Provence, Lucerne and El Jem in Tunisia.
Particularly fond of the chamber music repertoire, he performs in various groups and regularly with the pianist Delphine Co. During his studies, he shared the stage with Lise Berthaud, Pierre Fouchenneret, Joël Marosi, the Aviv Quartet and Fabrizio Chiovetta.
Interested in historically informed practice, Clément studied baroque cello with Bruno Cocset in Geneva. He recently played with Les Arts Florissants as an academician and with the Gabetta Consort. He has taken part in the Jeune Orchestre de l’Abbaye-aux-Dames under Philippe Herreweghe and Hervé Niquet, and in the Jeune Orchestre Baroque Européen with Les Ombres. Alongside Christophe Coin, he has given several concerts with a programme of original 19th-century cello quartets.
