Edna Unseld (2011)
Edna was born into a Swiss-German family of musicians: both her parents are professional violinists. She started playing the violin at the age of four, and due to her exceptional talent, she soon received Anne-Sophie Mutter’s child-sized violin.

In 2021, many doors opened for Edna:
Maxim Vengerov invited her to his online masterclass, she won the 3rd prize at the international Leonid Kogan competition (Brussels), and she performed – under the direction of Gilbert Varga – with the “Pannon Philharmonic" orchestra at commemorative concerts for Tibor Varga in Pécs (Hungary) and at the Liszt Academy in Budapest.

In 2022, she won the “Il Piccolo Violino Magico" international violin competition in Italy and the special prize for “outstanding performances" at the International Louis Spohr Competition for Young Violinists in Germany.

She has also won several national 1st prizes with distinction in solo, duo, and with her string quartet, in which she also regularly plays the viola.

Edna studies at the Musikschule Konservatorium Zürich (MKZ) in Jens Lohmann’s violin class. There, she plays in the “Stringendo Zürich" orchestra for talented young musicians.

For the upcoming season, Edna has been engaged for various concerts in Switzerland and abroad, including at the Tonhalle in Zurich and as part of the preliminary program “Mini Violini" of the Montreal International Musical Competition in Canada.

Edna plays on an old Italian violin by Camillo Camilli, lent to her by a private individual.

In her free time, she practices classical dance, reads a lot, and listens to recordings of her favorite violinists: Itzhak Perlman, Anne-Sophie Mutter, and Maxim Vengerov.
